Lunch 'N Learn with Shannon

Shannon Knapp, our most knowledgeable equine specialist, is giving three Lunch 'n Learn talks (Jan 26, Feb 16, March 30) this winter. Talks held at Horse Sense of the Carolinas will be in the brick house at the farm.

Volunteer Orientation for new volunteers will also be at the farm on the Lunch 'n Learn days from 10:00-11:00am. Bring your lunch or head to Marshall or Leicester, grab lunch and come back for Shannon's riveting talks.

Each talk will cover a new topic. The three topics are:

  1. Intro to Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning: Learn the basics of EAP/L and how the work is done, including the various trainings and certifications, and what kinds of horses are great fits for this! Shanon will hold this talk on January 26th at the Horse Sense of the Carolinas farm and on February 28th (6-7:30pm) at Verner Center for Early Learning (2586 Riceville Road, Asheville, NC 28805).

  2. Horse Psychology, Herd Behavior and Therapeutic Practices: Why horses? Learn about predator/prey dynamics, the strength, draw and power of the herd, and how these offer the perfect opportunity for humans to grow, develop, learn and thrive in partnership with horses! Shanon will hold this talk on February 16th at the Horse Sense of the Carolinas farm and on March 28th (6-7:30pm) at Verner Center for Early Learning (2586 Riceville Road, Asheville, NC 28805).

  3. Trauma and the Brain (Humans and Horses): Many of the horses utilized in the field of EAP/L are rescue horses who've experienced their own trauma. How does that experience support the recovery for humans who've experienced trauma? Where are the therapeutic opportunities in this connection? Shanon will hold this talk on March 30th at the Horse Sense of the Carolinas farm and on April 18th (6-7:30pm) at Verner Center for Early Learning (2586 Riceville Road, Asheville, NC 28805).

It’s always exciting to learn when Shannon is the teacher!
