Welcome Everyone!
Hey Everyone!
Welcome to the Horse Sense Trailblazers Blog. I'm so excited to be writing you right now, cuz it means we've managed to pull this whole thing together and get it going, something that was only a dream a little over a year ago. I love seeing a project come together.
I also love bringing people together, especially people passionate about making a difference. I hope this website will be able to bring us closer in ways we couldn't before, because of distance, time and cost.
I know when I first started out I was not hungry but ravenous for information about this amazing field of work, but I just couldn't go everywhere and do everything I wanted to with a 90 acre farm, 6 dogs, 10 cats and 20 +/- horses at any given time (not to mention my husband!). As a former college professor, I knew a lot of what I wanted to learn could be done remotely, or utilizing internet technology in some way, but couldn't find that opportunity out there.
Then, once Horse Sense opened and we started seeing clients, a sense of isolation grew, as I longed for meaningful and insightful collaboration and communication with my peers. When I would hit a stumbling block, I would think to myself, "I couldn't possibly be the first person to have felt this way, or to have faced this problem, could I? But yet, I don't want to do it just like everyone else, either!"
So there it is, in a nutshell: the push/pull for me with connection and individualism. I have a stubborn, passionate & independent streak, but yet I also want to feel connected and a "part of", not so alone. How to balance that dynamic has been a recurring feature of my life, one I suspect I may mention a time or two on these pages. Perhaps this is also true for you? If so, please feel free to post a comment to our Blog.
My goal with this Blog and Trailblazers Site is to help you with the details, big and small, that may get in your way or that I've learned along the way, without squelching you.
I believe that none of us are in competition with one another, as we all bring our own unique flavor and gifts to this field. But, there are a lot of things we can all learn from, and it doesn't have to cost a fortune!
Forgive me for being a bit long-winded. I'm just so enthused by the launching of the Trailblazers site, and had to share it! I'm looking forward to working together for the success of your program, and the difference we can all make!
Shannon

Getting Started
Shannon and all the Trailblazers: I'm really excited to be part of this. Workshops are wonderful and emails are great, but having the teleconferences and the blog add another element of life to the work. Beign able to share the experience of people who already have viable programs gives me great hope that, if I continue along this path, I will have the ability to also have a broad based, sustainable program that we all can be proud of.
Thanks
Hi Shannon, you provide a great insight in your introduction: "I believe that none of us are in competition with one another, as we all bring our own unique flavor and gifts to this field." At The Horse Institute (NY) we've been using EAL (not EAP!) for corporate training, i.e., team building and leadership. We are very happy to hear suggestions and share our experience -- we are still rookies, we started 18 months ago. All the best, marieclaude@thehorseinstitute.com www.thehorseinstitute.com
Thanks & Getting Started
Sheri & Marieclaude,
Thanks for your replies, and by all means holler when you have something you'd like to add or request that we bring up on the Trailblazers site. Marieclaude, what kind of training did you get as you pursued EAL? Are you in the city or outside? Sheri, good to hear from you again!
Best,
Shannon
press release
after the last telecall, I just wrote "the facts" and sent it to all 3 papers and they all printed it.

this is an exciting field
Shannon, I really am enjoying our time on the telecalls. My printer is out of ink downloading all this great info from trailblazers. This is great for us newbies.
